Then Obama comes in and everyone thinks everything's going to be fine now, so they get complacent and don't bother going to the polls in 2010 and now we've got the Tea Party running things and declaring war on ordinary Americans.

Democrats should really watch the episode of "Family Guy" where Lois runs for mayor. She makes the mistake you mentioned of trying to beat crazy Adam West by talking about issues. Then Brian tells her to simplify things. So she goes up there and just starts saying, "9/11" to everything and wins by a landslide. It's not that easy in real life as Giuliani found out, but it's the same principle you mentioned. You don't go up there blah blah blahing about the issues; you speak in sound byte slogans people can remember later.

To reference another show, remember the "Seinfeld" when George got "By Men-nen!" stuck in his head and started using his slogan of "Co-stan-za!" to pick up women? That's the principle that ad men learned years ago; the public can remember a catchy 3-syllable jingle, but they aren't going to remember a lengthy speech about why they should choose one deodorant over another.

So really Obama and the Dems need to hire some Mad Men to work for them and come up with some catchy and short messages they can use in 2012.

And really when you think about it, isn't that what Obama did in 2008 with "Hope" and "Change." Who can remember the exact specifics, but we remember those two words and associate them with him.

Or maybe he could just start going around singing, "O-bam-a!" so we all get it stuck in our heads.PT Dillowayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09394481476862013009noreply@blogger.com
