As a newly-appointed owner of my firm, this was the first year I got to review other employees instead of being reviewed. So this was the first time I've sat through other people's reviews, and the experience was enlightening, by which I mean it was anything but, at times.
There was, for example, much more cursing than I had anticipated. We run a pretty loose shop, apparently. Also, we discussed, at times:
Kant's categorical imperative.
Bourbon.
Whether I am a young guy or old guy
About which, on that last one, the two oldest people in our firm were talking and agreeing that they were the oldest people in our firm, and then the second-oldest person in our firm said to me: "Well, you type all your stuff and you type it fast, but these younger people, they don't know how to do that."
To which I responded that up until that very moment I'd considered myself one of the younger people.
(She still got a raise.)
Also, I drew a pirate ship:
It's sort of a space-ghost-futuristic-pirate ship, which really I think highlights the kind of boss I am.

Why 3D? (Middle)
There are some movies that would be great in 3D. Titanic is not one of them. Why?
Here are a few reasons why I don’t think that Titanic should be made 3D;
First off, I would like to say that Titanic is a classic love
story (sort of like Gone With the Wind) and if I were to be made into a 3D
movie than the story line would be forgotten about and the movie would have a
different meaning.
Second, I re-watched Titanic last evening (it is one of, if
not my favorite movie) and there was not one part that I believe would be good
in 3D.
Third, wouldn’t one get a headache from watching that long
of a movie in 3D?
I understand that 3D can be cool and awesome and all of that
but I for one am not a person that can see a movie in 3D. I am not able to see 3D. And I am more than okay with that because I
don’t think that 3D is all that wonderful.
Plus just wearing those sill glasses gives me a headache.
Yes, I will agree, and say that there are some movies that
would be awesome in 3D. If I had to choose
a movie to see in 3D (that is if I could see 3D) I would chose the movie
Up. I think that would be a great movie because
the colors and the balloons and the house and almost the entire movie would be
really cool to see protruding from the movie screen. But like I said I don’t think that everything
needs to be put into 3D.
I like the fact they are releasing the Titanic in the big
screen because then it gives the people who were too young or unable to see the
movie in theatre a chance to go and see the movie on the big screen, but putting
the movie in 3D is going a little too far…

250=1, Story Six
One morning, a mother gave birth to a beautiful little daughter and said “Do you know, you might one day grow to rule this country!”
A treaty was made with the neighboring country, the one whose Princess had been turned down for a royal marriage. People there began to wonder why they had a royal family.
Citizens began asking why they ever had a monarchy in the first place and realized they could say that aloud.
Trade guilds flourished. Several artists began to experiment with other forms of painting. People decided they would choose among themselves for judges, and freed some prisoners who had been held simply for grudges.
He would never take the throne. The kingdom first crumbled into battling feudal territories before eventually climbing into a rude form of democracy.
The Prince was left broken-hearted, wandering around the Desolate Mountains – named that only after he took to them, because they took on his nature, so great was his sadness. The mountains echoed and mirrored his grief.
Then she died anyway, in his arms.
He broke off the kiss, and stared into her eyes, as if his hope, his desperation, his need and the troubles he had fought through alone could transfer to her a magic that did not exist.
But he kissed her anyway, for as long as he could do so before having to admit it was not working.
He knew it was futile.
The princess lay, not asleep, but nearly dead.
This Fairytale Was Told Backwards.
In 250=1, I write a short story that is exactly 250 words long, including the title. Find more of them here.

Watch Life Grow... (Middle, What the H?)
A New Leaf...
So lately I have been thinking, and maybe it's becuase the
weather was so nice for a while there, but I have been thinking that perhaps I
should plant a tree. I wouldn't want to plant a tree to be random but I
think that it would be cool to plant a tree and watch it grow from the
beginning.
I remember when I was little my grandparents had my sister plant a tree in their front yard and over the years we watched it grow.
Then for months at a time we didn't see the tree and when we went to visit my grandparents we would see the tree and see how much it had grown. It was a really cool experience.
The only problem with this idea is that I live in an apartment complex and I don't think my landlord would appreciate me planting a tree in the middle of the front yard. But perhaps someone would let me plant the tree with her little brothers in their backyard...hint hint...!
But I was thinking about planting a tree like this...
