A Minute With Mr Bunches

So I opened the door to the bathroom, and inside, Mr Bunches appeared to be in a room filled with smoke.  After a moment's panic ("the house is on fire and I'm gonna be blamed for it!") I realized it was baby powder he'd been spilling.

He said: "Dad, can you help me clean it up?"

I said: "What happened in here?"

And he studied my face for a second to decide if I was mad or not before saying:

"Dad? Can you just say, sure?"

THAT got him out of trouble, and then Sweetie came by to see what was going on and said "What is going on here? What are you doing?"

To which he replied: "... I'm so crazy?"

Because Mr Bunches can swim all the way across the pool.  After he did it for me the first time, to my complete surprise (I hadn't known he got that good), I made him do it again for the camera:

The other day, Mr Bunches wanted to play school, so when it was my turn to pick something to do for school, I picked drawing.  Mr Bunches drew THIS:

What's REALLY mysterious about that picture is the unexplained planet that is amazingly close to the sun.  Is it the CounterEarth? It probably is.

There is a right way and a wrong way to play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" (A Minute With Mr Bunches)

And the "right way" is however makes you happy.  

I spent some time last night beginning to teach Mr F and Mr Bunches piano.  They were less resistant to it than I thought, in that Mr F went through three "Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars" before running upstairs.  Mr Bunches didn't actually start with "Twinkle," but went into "Old McDonald Had A Farm," and then finished with the crowd-pleaser we were all there for.

(I did make an effort to teach them the notes, which are labeled on the piano from way back when I made an effort to teach Oldest, Middle, and The Boy piano, too. Showing them the notes led to Mr Bunches saying "Can I use G?" I assured him he could.)

I do not know why the lighting is so red.  We don't live on Krypton, and there wasn't a giant wildfire surrounding the house or anything.  So let's just call it special effects and I will fix it when the Special Edition Blu-Ray comes out in 2039.

When I was a kid, "Rockem Sockem Robots" were bigger, and tougher, and robotier.

Or so I choose to remember because everything was better when I was a kid, except for the stuff that clearly is NOT.  OHMYGOD I wish we'd had iPads and stuff like that as a kid.  We had those little handheld football games in which the player was a tiny red LED, and you pushed buttons frantically to make him go up and down.  Do you know how sucky that was? VERY SUCKY.

Worse were those little water games you used to get, where you push the one button and make the water in the tube squirt up and blow around the stuff in the plastic container, like a basketball, and hope it gets into the hoop by random chance? Those were terrible.  ONE BUTTON.  What was THAT about? And yet, we loved them.

Because we didn't know any better, is my point.  Because we didn't know any better.

Mr Bunches, with access to iPads and the Internet and all, knows better, but still loves himself some retro games.  Here he is engaging in Solo Rockem Sockem Roboting.  I am sure this will be an Olympic sport someday.

PPS: Later, Mr Bunches relented and let me play, and together we discovered the secret to winning.  Want to know the secret? You've got to sort of lunge your robot forward as you punch, and you'll get 'em every time.  Once we learned that, we spent a happy half hour Rockeming and Sockeming, until Mr Bunches again banished me from the game.
