"Love is a smoke raised with the fume of sighs; Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers' eyes; Being vex'd a sea nourish'd with lovers' tears: What is it else? a madness most discreet, A choking gall and a preserving sweet." (Also, it is matching pizzas.)

Things base and vile, folding no quantity,
Love can transpose to form and dignity:
-- A Midsummer Night's Dream
We had twenty-four hours of Valentine's! On Friday, I surprised Sweetie by having The Boy come over and babysit so we could go out for dinner to a restaurant we used to go to all the time back at the turn of the century -- literally, we hadn't been there since 2002 -- and then go for ice cream.

When Love speaks, the voice of all the gods
Makes heaven drowsy with the harmony.
-- Love's Labour Lost

And then on Saturday, she gave me matching sweatshirts (Mine says "Soul," which when I saw it I said "Great, I love it!" because I didn't know yet that it was matching and thought maybe Sweetie was just saying I had soul, but hers says "Mate", so we got to be in love and embarrass the older kids),

Hear my soul speak:
The very instant that I saw you, did
My heart fly to your service.
-- The Tempest

and I left little notes around the house detailing various great memories I had of her from our nearly-two-decades together, and she gave me a box of candy, and we cooked matching pizzas together (only hers was more heart shaped, so mine had the pepperonis arranged into a heart), and then we watched the movie Annabelle after the boys went to bed, so all in all, a great Valentine's Day.

My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite.
-- Romeo & Juliet.
(True of Love; Not True Of Pizza.)
