The treachery of color, too. (Life With Unicorns)

One of the things Mr Bunches loves to do is write alphabets and have us draw pictures to go along with the letters. We do that roughly 20 times a week.

Today, on the latest round of alphabet-drawing, he took over on the "Y" and the result reminded me of Magritte's famous painting, La trahison des images, or "The Treachery of Images".  This is that painting:

By which Magritte meant that the painting of a pipe is not a pipe.

Today, working on the aforementioned alphabets, Mr Bunches got to Y, the word for which, he decided, was Yellow:

And when he wrote "Yellow" in green it reminded me of Magritte. I'm sure most people would write the word yellow using the yellow marker.  But not Mr Bunches.

This is like that brain game thing where you're supposed to say the color but each color is written in a color that is not the color. So, the word "pink" would be written in green and "green" would be written in red. And you would have to say green, then red, but you would say pink, then green, because you read the words and not the colors.

I think I just had an existential crisis.

I recently took a test that was exactly like that. I did not do well.

You and me both.

I had this kind of thing on a poster as a kid. My mom got it for me as some kind of mental exercise. Or perhaps just to keep me busy while she was watching her "stories."

I wonder if Magritte was listening to The Penguins, The Moonglows, the Orioles, and the Five Satins while he painted that. You know, the deep forbidden music he was longing for.*

*That's right, a Paul Simon reference.

Mr. Bunches works in mysterious ways. If he had written the word in Yellow... you wouldn't have a blog post. Or that head scratching moment.

"Rene & Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War."

I got that even without googling it.

Robin:

You have accurately pegged Mr Bunches, who doesn't know that he is contributing to my blogging but wouldn't care if he did.

Well done on the image. Yellow starts with a Y, which I think is pretty meta. So making it yellow would be too much. Nice job to Mr Bunches in pulling back form the obvious.
