More Texts From Sweetie (Thinking the Lions)

In order today, they were:

Sweetie: My mom is making u fruitcake. Lucky u!!!

Me: Yay! That was a Superxmas think I was going to do.

Sweetie: Good, then, but I can't promise what will be in it. Plus, she's making it today to give u on the 17th.

Me: I don't think that matters with fruitcake.

Sweetie: I know. U will probably have salmon and Dentyne in your fruitcake.

Sweetie is not big on fruitcake, or her mom's cooking. I'm skeptical of her mom's cooking, but I will never not love fruitcake.

The best thing about fruit cake is that, really, anything can be in them, and they're still just a fruit cake.
I haven't really had any fruit cake since I was a teenager. My grandmother used to make great fruit cake, and I haven't had any since she quit making them.

Fruit cake can be really good, or it can be pretty terrible. Depends who makes it and what's in it.

I have for decades been the beneficiary of society's apparent division on the friutcake. I would tell my colleagues in December that if they got a fruitcake and didn't want it, I'd love to have it.

Of the dozens and dozens I've recieved over the years, and the ones made by my late maternal grandmother during my formative years, I can honestly say I've never tasted a "bad" fruitcake.

I think it's like scrambled eggs. You really have to try, to screw it up.
